Almost simultaneously with the installation of the first foundation at the Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm, the experienced aviation company for the offshore industry, Northern HeliCopter GmbH (NHC) from Emden, was awarded the contract for transport flights/crew changes by global maritime contractor Van Oord, the Balance of Plant Contractor for the wind farm.
The contract runs until the end of the project period. Van Oord is the contractor of Northland Deutsche Bucht GmbH, who signed a framework agreement for transports with Northern HeliCopter last month. Deutsche Bucht is Northland Power’s third offshore wind farm. As previously reported, NHC expanded its fleet in September with another EC 155 B1 helicopter. NHC are thus available to six helicopters. "Our aim is to offer our customers the greatest possible flexibility," Frank Zabell says, Managing Director of Northern HeliCopter GmbH.
In addition to offshore passenger transport, NHC has been experienced in air rescue more than 25 years and operates three rescue helicopters. They are in standby in St. Peter-Ording for the wind farms in the North Sea and at the Güttin airfield on the island of Rügen for the wind farms in the Baltic Sea for the offshore wind power operators. The rescue helicopters are specially equipped for this task and are permanently manned by an emergency doctor and a paramedic. The Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm will be constructed about 95 kilometers to the northwest of the North Sea island of Borkum in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The wind farm with 33 wind turbines of type V164-8.4 by MHI Vestas has an allocated grid connection capacity of close to 269 megawatts.
